Post-mortem sperm procurement is on the rise, according to a University of Pennsylvania study. Creating a new life from the deceased (sperm can live in a man's body for up to 48 hours after his death) remained little-explored until 1994, when the media widely reported the tale of a newlywed who obtained the sperm of her husband after his demise. In 1997, the fertility clinicssurveyed received more requests for the procedure (43) than they had in the previous 14 years combined (37).
