HBO
Series About the Funeral Industry
This past summer, HBO's new drama series, "Six Feet Under,"
took a comic look
at members of a dysfunctional Pasadena family that run an independent
funeral home. From the Academy-Award-winning writer of
"American Beauty" (Alan Ball).
Newsweek called it "A Family Drama to Die For."
This brilliant series premiered on June 3 and it has received RAVE reviews!
"Six Feet Under" looked at death, rituals related to death, and
the funeral industry (including jargon like "Torch Mart" for
crematoriums and "casket climber" relating to a grieving wife
who leaps on to her husband's casket during a wake).
All thirteen
episodes of this show were consistently well-acted and well-written.
The
superb season finale included an "It's a Wonderful Life"-type
ending where Nate, concerned about a brain malady which could be fatal, soaks in all the good
of his life and all the people he loves. Brenda approaches him to
see what he's thinking about and he says, "I'm just thinking about
how lucky I am." Sigh! What a great way to close the
first season! A BIG decomposing thumbs
up from Grinny!
