(Part 1) - Written by Joss Whedon - Directed by Charles Martin Smith; First broadcast Monday, March 10, 1997. 8-10 p.m. (Two Hour Pilot) on the WB Network
Cemetery moments: From Buffy's opening dream to the cliffhanger in the mausoleum this first episode abounds with cemetery moments, not to mention death moments. The first dead guy pops out of a locker in the girls locker room. Buffy's first slaying of the series takes place in the mausoleum when she stakes "Thomas". Her fight with Luke establishes the Slayer's ability to take on vampires on an equal, if imperfect, basis.
Continues Part 1
(Part 2) Written by Joss Whedon - Directed by John Kretchmer; first broadcast Monday, March 10, 1997. 8-10 p.m. (Two Hour Pilot) on the WB Network
Cemetery moments: This episode opens in the mausoleum where Buffy's confrontation with Luke continues. Here, for the first time, Angel helps save Buffy (in absentia). The cross Angel gave Buffy at their first encounter slides from her pocket to burn the vampire Luke giving Buffy a chance to escape. She then stakes a couple of vampires in the cemetery.
Later, when Buffy realizes that the entrance to the vampire's lair is inside the mausoleum she describes herself as "mentally challenged". She's not. This same mausoleum is the setting for her second encounter with the mysterious stranger, Angel. Angel tells Buffy about the "Harvest" and, belatedly, wishes her "good luck".
"Never Kill a Boy on the First Date"
Buffy has her first slayer/teenager dilemma when she must decide between stopping the forces of evil and going out with a handsome, poetry-loving classmate.
Written by Rob Des Hotel & Dean Batali - Directed by David Semel; first Broadcast Monday, March 31, 1997 9 p.m. on the WB Network
Cemetery moments: A large portion of this episode takes part in the Sunnydale Funeral Home. A large sign proclaims: "We'll take care of the rest!"
"What's My Line?"
5V09 - Written by Marti Noxon and Howard Gordan - Directed by David Solomon. Monday, Nov 17. 9 p.m. on The WB Television Network
Cemetery moments: This episode includes a daylight cemetery scene. Buffy and Giles explore a tomb that has been vandalized by Vampires. The name on the tomb is DuLac. This is the guy who wrote the book on restoring Dru to full health.
This episode also includes one of the best lines in the series. Buffy laments to Angel that she just wants them to be a regular couple. Angel looks at her and she says:
"Okay then, a regular kid and her cradle-robbing creature-of-the-night boyfriend."
(with episode descriptions borrowed from the official Buffy site).
